Rackmount.IT Eaglerack – The innovative vertical wall mount solution

Rackmount.IT from The Netherlands are well known for their innovative rack mount kits that enable networking equipment and devices to be installed in standard 19-inch server racks. Not all premises where MSPs manage IT deployments have the space to house a 19-inch rack. This often means that IT equipment like firewalls, routers, gateways, switches, and more often gets installed on shelves in shared cupboards or rooms with uncontrolled access. This can (indeed does!) mean that people who are not MSP staff can access vital equipment needed to maintain and secure the customer’s access to the Internet from their premises. We can all tell the tale of a reported problem at a branch office that required the dispatch of an engineer to investigate. Only to find someone had pulled a cable out of a power socket or a network cable from a piece of network hardware.

Rackmount.IT have developed a solution that MSPs can use to store vital networking hardware in client sites where space is limited and not physically secured: The Eaglerack.

Introducing Eaglerack

Eaglerack is a secure wall mount solution that enables appliances to be mounted vertically. It will be available in 2U, 3U, and 4U options to allow MSPs to deploy the model with the mounting space needed on each remote site. The case configuration can be used open or closed via a plate secured with thumb screws. Figure 1 shows a 2U case model with two 1U slots filled.

Each Eaglerack has space for a UPS to be included at the bottom of the unit if required. When mounted on a wall, the Eaglerack leaves a 3 cm space for cable routing. Cabling can enter the case from the top or the bottom. So, in addition to protecting and securing essential networking equipment in remote locations, the Eaglerack can also help tame the untidy cabling that is common in shared spaces in branch offices and other premises.

Eaglerack Will Be Available in 12 Variations

Eaglerack will be available in options that allow for 12 variations. The Eaglerack A-series is the most compact cabinet option that comes in 2U, 3U, and 4U depths. The A-Series can mount desktop-class and shallow 19-inch appliances. There is also space for a UPS at the bottom of the A-Series.

The Eaglerack B-series is an extended version of the A-series built to accommodate larger 19-inch appliances and a UPS if required.

Both the A and B Series options can be supplied with a lid and lock to prevent access to ports on the networking equipment. Ideal for use in areas where access is not physically secure. The lid and lock will prevent anyone from touching (and breaking) the mounted devices.

Widespread Availability Scheduled from February 2023

At the time of writing (November 2022), Eaglerack units have been deployed in the stores of a large USA takeaway restaurant chain and to locations operated by a police force in Europe. Widespread availability for MSPs across Ireland is forecast for February 2023.
