We’ve all heard the term ‘have someone’s back’ but what does it mean?
Urban Dictionary definition (because of course)…
“You watch out and be a second set of eyes for someone. You look out for their best interests and let them know if they have missed something. You will stick up for them”
I was flicking through the channels the other day and I came across an old Lethal Weapon movie. I tuned in for a while to see Mel Gibson’s character (Riggs) doing what he does well… cutting through the red tape, getting things done, taking more than the odd risk and all with a cheeky grin!
Mel (Riggs) was pretty much focused on the big goal… catching the bad guys and blowing things up. What he had however was a partner, Danny Glover, or should I say Murtaugh.
Now Murtaugh was a veteran who added the voice of reason, bringing the Ying to Rigg’s Yang. What he added was process, wisdom, compliance & structure. Always making sure that Riggs was supported by someone who ultimately had his back.
